Jumma Khutbah-- Feeling Lifeless and Sad

Jumma Khutbah-- Feeling Lifeless and Sad

Assalamo Alaikum Wa Rahmataullahi Wa Barakatahu

Insha Allah you are all in the best state of health and Imaan.  Just a small reminder to recite Allahuma Sallay Ala Muhammadin Abdika Wa Nabiyika Wa Rasoolikan Nabiyyil Ummiyi.  Reciting this darood and salaam upon Nabi SAW 80 times on Friday takes away 80 years of sin

Juwairiyah bint Al-Harith (May Allah be pleased with her) reported, the Mother of the Believers: The Prophet (peace be upon him) came out from my apartment in the morning as I was busy in performing the dawn prayer. He came back in the forenoon and found me sitting there. The Prophet (peace be upon him said, "Are you still in the same position as I left you." I replied in the affirmative. Thereupon the Prophet said, "I recited four words three times after I had left you. If these are to be weighed against all you have recited since morning, these will be heavier. These are: Subhan-Allahi wa bihamdihi, `adada khalqihi, wa rida nafsihi, wa zinatah `arshihi, wa midada kalimatihi [Allah is free from imperfection and I begin with His praise, as many times as the number of His creatures, in accordance with His Good Pleasure, equal to the weight of His Throne and equal to the ink that may be used in recording the words (for His Praise)]."[Sahih Muslim].  Take two minutes to memorise the above and repeat it three times in the morning and in the evening.  And it really does take only two minutes.

Sometimes we feel a bit lifeless and a little sad.  Sometimes we can see what is causing it and other times we can't.  Our aim is to be happy.  So how do we snap out of these situations?

On the outset, it is important for us to first understand our true purpose in life and why we have been sent to this world. A feeling of emptiness and indifference towards life is a result of not preoccupying oneself with certain morals and ideals that shape and form the way we live out our lives. Once we are able to do so, we will be able to take the next step by molding our life in accordance to these predefined goals and let them become the means of achieving true happiness.

As Muslims, our aim in life is to seek the pleasure of Allah Ta'ālā by worshipping him and obeying His commands and the commands of His messenger (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam). He the Almighty says in the Holy Quran:

And I did not create the Jinns and the human beings except that they should worship Me. I do not want any sustenance from them, nor do I want them to feed Me. In fact, Allah is the All-Sustainer, Possessor of power, the Strong.[Al-Quran, 51:56-58]

As such, you should make an effort to bring Islam in every part of your life and let our mind remain busy in furthering this goal. Allah Ta'ālā says in the Holy Quran:

Whoever, male or female, has done righteous deed while a believer, We shall certainly make him live a good life and shall give such people their reward for the good they used to do.[Al-Quran, 16:97]

In order to help us relieve our self of these feelings of emptiness, it is good advise that we do the following:

(1) Make a schedule for the day and single out certain times fornawafil salah(extra prayer),dhikr(remembrance of Allah Ta'ālā), recitation of the Quran, anddu'ā.

(2) Read books about the life of the Holy Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) and his companions (radiyallahu 'anhu)

(3) Download and listen to lectures about Islam.

(4) Find Islamic activities offered by our local masjid so you may join them and further our Islamic agenda.

(5) Seek the company of the piousUlamaand make an effort to learn more from them about Islam.

Once we are able to bring Islam into every part of your life, our carelessness will automatically dissipate and we will be able to taste the true sweetness of Iman.

We can also recite the following du'a:

Translation:O Allah, help me in remembering You, in giving You thanks, and worshipping You well.

Transliteration: Allahumma A'innee 'alaa dhikrika wa shukrika wa husni 'ibaadatik

It is a simple dua and it only takes a minute to learn it.  We should incorporate it in the Dua we make after every salah. That way it is embed firmly in our minds and we will take the most benefit from it insha Allah.

May Allah Ta'ālā grant us happiness in this life and the hereafter. Ameen.

Assalamo Alaikum
